101: first programs

This page is CU-101.2, edition 2 of 101: first programs, checked against cint 0.2.0 and released on {{RELEASE_DATE}}.

This edition is current. Every program in it was run on cint 0.2.0 with each of four C compilers (GCC, Clang, MSVC and Apple Clang), and every output comes from those runs. The text of this edition does not change after its release. Corrections that change nothing a reader would see are listed in ERRATA.md. A new edition is published when a release changes what a lesson shows or when lessons are added. Lesson identifiers are the same in every edition and are never reused.

101 is for people who have never written a program. It needs a browser and nothing else. To run the programs on your own computer as well, set up cint. A new word is explained where it first appears and linked to the glossary.

changes since the previous edition

CU-101.2 replaces CU-101.1, which stays readable.

  • Lessons 101-06 to 101-12 are new.
  • Every lesson's first line names CU-101.2.
  • 101-05 gains the sentence "Lesson 101-07 is all about loops." after the one about for, and a pointer to 101-11 after the stack-depth line. It now ends with a link to 101-06.

No program's output changed.
